James Uli joins East Campus as director of finance
James Uli has joined the East Campus as its first-ever director of finance.
“My role is to monitor East Campus for performance, both in high-level respects and, where needed, at a detail level to resolve any issues and maximize financial opportunities,” he says. “For example, if a department or unit is doing especially well financially, we can look into how to grow that kind of business.”
Mr. Uli is already working with Jan Kroetz, executive director of patient care, on the total joint replacement service line. “That’s an opportunity area for us,” Mr. Uli notes. “Increasing our volume will help us improve financially.”
The smaller size of East Campus was one of the things Mr. Uli found attractive in deciding to accept the new position. “I feel like I can make a difference,” he says, adding that he likes the people. “It’s a group of people who are mission-driven.”
Mr. Uli came to LLUMC in March 2001 as a decision-support analyst. Two years later he moved into reimbursement as an analyst and then manager. A graduate of the University of California, Riverside, with a degree in business finance, he was a stockbroker at Merrill Lynch before coming to Loma Linda. “I still enjoy market finance,” he says.
Mr. Uli’s wife, Kam, is a business systems analyst. They have a two-and-a-half-year-old son, Emerson, and a year-old daughter, Rebecca.
