The Clinical Practice Award is conferred annually to an active Gamma Alpha Chapter member currently engaged in clinical nursing practice who best demonstrated the values established by Sigma Theta Tau International. Gamma Alpha Chapter members may apply or may nominate another Gamm Alpha member. The nominator completes the bottom portion of the application form (to be completed before other documents are procured).
A certificate recognizing excellence in clinical practice will be presented at the annual induction service with a memo that Chapter will pay for annual renewal fees.
I. Eligibility for the award
A. Be an active member of Gamma Alpha Chapter of STTI.
B. Be engaged in clinical nursing practice in an inpatient or out-patient facility. This
excludes nominees whose major function is nurse manager, director, nurse educator,
etc.
II. Application to include
A. One (1) copy of the application form
1. Awards Application (.doc) or
2. Awards Application (.pdf) format
B. One (1) copy of the applicant’s current resume or curriculum vitae.
C. Two (2) letters of support from individuals who are in a position to evaluate the
nominee’s clinical nursing practice.
D. One (1) letter from someone in a supervisory capacity to the nominee.
E. Documentation of the following criteria (maximum 3 pages double spaced):
1. Superior achievement (examples include)
a. Recognized as an exemplary professional nurse in planning and implementing
direct patient care.
b. Uses current research in direct patient care
c. Demonstrates breath of knowledge in performing both independent and
interdependent nursing functions
2. Leadership qualities (examples include)
a. Serves as a mentor that inspires others in the practice of
nursing
b. Promotes change in the health-care environment to enhance patient care
c. Demonstrates client advocacy through effective written ideas and oral
communication
d. Facilitates collaboration with colleagues
3. High professional standards (examples include)
a. Applies critical thinking to patient care
b. Participates in the development of standards of nursing practice.
c. Uses ethical principles in planning and implementing patient care
d. Establishes and fosters a relationship of trust with patients and other
health-care professionals
4. Creative work (examples include)
a. Develops creative approaches to nursing practice that contribute to quality
patient care
b. Adapts nursing care to meet multicultural and other diverse patient needs
5. Commitment to the profession (examples include)
a. Is active in nursing organizations
b. Contributes to the operation of the institution through active participation in
committees and their work groups.
