As a Medical Physicist I seek to bring together physics, medicine, engineering, computer science and biology in developing advancements in radiation medicine. Specifically I am interested in developments in proton therapy including patient alignment, Monte Carlo, beam delivery, dosimetry and imaging. I obtained my undergraduate and graduate training in medical physics from the University of Wollongong in Australia. This training had a large laboratory and clinical component which focused on multidisciplinary solutions to overcoming challenges in medical physics. During the course of my PhD studies I spent a total of 18 months in the US completing research at a number of institutions including the US Naval Academy, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Loma Linda University Medical Center, Massachusetts General Hospital and the Harvard School of Medicine. This research was sponsored in part by a Fulbright Scholarship which I was fortunate enough to be awarded with in 2005. Currently I am a member of the Translational Research Team within the Department of Radiation Medicine at the James M. Slater MD Proton Treatment and Research Center, Honorary Fellow at the Centre for Medical Radiation Physics at the University of Wollongong and Assistant Professor at the Loma Linda University School of Medicine. This posting is excellent as it allows me to use a multi-disciplinary approach to progressing proton therapy and in turn pass my knowledge onto students.
