I come from a family of teachers. Grandparents on both sides, parents, all my 4 siblings and my two daughters have been teachers. Table discussions when I was in grade school often were about teaching techniques. I did my "family obligatory" two years of teaching elementary church school under my mother's supervision (she was Indiana Conference educational supervisor.) before deciding that the stress of teaching elementary students would kill me and returning to college for pre-med. Throughout my professional carreer I have been most happy when teaching. My five years of practicing administrative medicine included generous doses of teaching physicians how to survive in the HMO and regulatroy world of the 1990's.
Semi-retirement allows me to devote all my work time to teaching. It is hard for me to imagine my life divested of students/residents. I am most grateful for this opportunity to be part of Loma Linda's faculty. |
