A considerable portion of my career activities have been dedicated to evaluating the impact of environmental stressors (such as low-dose radiation, physical and psychological stress, and spaceflight) on immunity. Most recently, this work involved flying mice aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis (STS-135) in 2011 as part of a large team of investigators associated with BioServe Space Technologies at the University of Colorado at Boulder, Amgen, and the NASA Ames Biospecimen Sharing Program. I have also established strong working relationships with the NASA Space Radiation Laboratory at the Brookhaven National Laboratory and the LLUMC Proton Treatment Center. These experiences have given me a unique understanding of the physiological impact of these environmental factors on immune function, as well as useful connections to premier researchers in the field.
