55. 5/27/02 Producer for the CBS News morning broadcast, The Early Show. We are seen weekdays from 7-9am across the country. I would like to do a three part series on what I am calling "Creative Therapies". One part would focus on Laughter Therapy and two other parts on would concentrate on some combination of Music, Art, Poetry and/or Drama Therapy.
For each piece, I want to be able to introduce our audience to ongoing therapy programs and the patients and practioners involved in them. However, I think it is equally important to have a voice within the story that can explain the science behind the therapy.
My early research suggested that you would certainly be someone who could help us understand what is currently known about why Laughter and its healing properties and/or medical benefits.

55 6/11/02 Dr. Berk - It was a pleasure speaking with you yesterday regarding your research about the positive anticipation of mirthful laughter. Your study about changes in mood states related to anticipating (and watching) a humorous video will work perfectly for my story. As I mentioned, the piece will be about simple ways to boost emotional and physical health. It will be running in the October issue of Fitness Magazine, a woman's health magazine available on most newsstands. Andrew Porterfield sent me a copy of your research (presented at the Society for Neuroscience meeting in October, 2001). And I'll be using several quotes from our interview. Fact-checkers from the magazine will probably be contacting you to verify quotes later this month. Again, thank you so much for taking the time to speak with me about your humor and laughter research. Jan Sheehan
