    Protecting Library Collections: Disaster Response in Action. The Huntington Library, San Marino, California, Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006, sponsored by the Los Angeles Preservation Network. This program was designed for library administrators and those having responsibility for emergency preparedness, response, and decision-making from public, academic, school and special libraries, historical societies and archives. The program included presentations on establishing priorites for salvage, emergency response team roles and responsibilities, levels of disaster assessment, when to activate the response team and hands-on sessions in salvage activities. Speakers included Richenda Brim, Head of Collection Maintenance, Getty Research Institute; Charlotte Brown, Archivist, UCLA; Gretchen Karl, Getty Research Institute; Susan E. Parker, Deputy University LIbrarian, UCLA; and Kristen L. St. John, Conservator, UCLA.

    26th Annual ASDAL (Association of Seventh-day Adventist Librarians) Conference -- "Twenty-five Years: Tradition and Change", Sunday, June 18 - Sabbath, June 24, 2006, Southern Adventist University, Collegedale, TN, USA. This was the silver anniversary conference. Monday, June 19 was devoted to the Adventist Resources Section with the theme of Communication. Jud Lake, Southern Adventist University, presented a talk on independent ministries and their web sites. Bill Summers, Director and Archivist, Southern Baptist Historical Library and Archives, Nashville TN spoke on communications for denominational archives. Tuesday, June 20, began the main conference with the keynote address Atrophy delivered by Keith Clouten, Library Director (retired) Andrews University.

    Preservation of Audiovisual Materials: A workshop sponsored by Amigos Library Services, held at the annual conference of the Society of California Archivists, April 27, 2006, San Francisco, California. The workshop presenter was Elizabeth Klein, Administrative Coordinator, Imaging & Preservation Services, Amigos Library Services. Workshop attendees learned the basic concepts involved in the creation, preservation, housing and reformating of a wide variety of audiovisual materials, from wax cylinders to optical media.
