Protecting Library Collections: Disaster Response in Action. The Huntington Library, San Marino, California, Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006, sponsored by the Los Angeles Preservation Network. This program was designed for library administrators and those having responsibility for emergency preparedness, response, and decision-making from public, academic, school and special libraries, historical societies and archives. The program included presentations on establishing priorites for salvage, emergency response team roles and responsibilities, levels of disaster assessment, when to activate the response team and hands-on sessions in salvage activities. Speakers included Richenda Brim, Head of Collection Maintenance, Getty Research Institute; Charlotte Brown, Archivist, UCLA; Gretchen Karl, Getty Research Institute; Susan E. Parker, Deputy University LIbrarian, UCLA; and Kristen L. St. John, Conservator, UCLA.
