A review of the current literature was presented showing the research linking lifestyle and the major ocular diseases. The clear role of the health care provider in patient education to prevent these chronic diseases was also presented.

Lecture for the 2nd International Ophthalmology Conference in Riga, Latvia. Lifestyle risk factors for eye disease are presented within the context of all of the major eye diagnoses. Current research is presented showing the strong relationships. Eye specialists are left with an understanding of their leadership role in educating peers and patients on how the patient can be empowered to secure their ocular health through healthy living.
