The influence of the family on the individual is discussed, with the concept of making systemic change to free the individual to better accomplish developmental changes. Included in the course are lectures on Bowen Family Therapy, Solution-Focused Family Therapy, Structural Family Therapy, Narrative Family Therapy, Gottman''s research on sound marriages (University of Washington research).

2 hour lectures given on Family Therapy for residents on Thursdays, dealing with premises of family therapy and marital therapy, how to work collaboratively with family therapists and when to refer,theoretical approaches with case discussions,hand-outs to further research, understanding and application, as well as introductory training for solution-focused therapy applications.
