9/2007 - Present Ultrasonic Instrumentation. This is a new activity designed to improve the development of periodontal instrumentation technique in a pre clinical setting. Since the students had no experience with ultrasonic instrumentation this 2 1/2 hour session gave to the students the necessary experience for performing ultrasonic instrumentation on a typodont especially designed for calculus removal. Students had the chance of removing calculus with ultrasonic and hand instruments as well as they noticed how easy was damaging the root surfaces of the teeth and the  gingiva in areas were a careful technique intrumentation was not applied. As a result of that they became more careful in their instrumentation technique, which made students better prepared for the clinic.
