Summer Session - 3 Quarter Units This course is designed to help students learn styles, principles and laws of effective leadership, the indispensable qualities of a leader, and the specific principles of spiritual leadership with some emphasis given to the health care setting. The learning process will be facilitated by lectures, discussion, film, student presentations, and reading/writing assignments. At the conclusion of this course, the student will have become thoroughly acquainted with the eight principles of leadership - Vision, Trust, Participation, Learning, Diversity, Creativity, Integrity and Community according to Robert Rosen. The student will have also become acquainted with John Maxwell's twenty-one irrefutable laws of leadership, and the twenty-one indisputable qualities of a leader.
1/2006 - 3/2006 RELT 436-1 Adventist Heritage and Health
Winter Session - 3 Quarter Units This class is a study of the Seventh-day Adventist Heritage of Religion as it relates to health. We will investigate the origin and development of the Seventh-day Adventists religious concern for health. Seventh-day Adventists have special dietary perspectives as well as holding to other health principles. Study will be given to the background of nineteenth-century medicine and health reform and its interaction with Adventist perspectives. Attention will be given to the role of Ellen G. White in the development of the Adventist philosophy of health. The story of Loma Linda University and its medical/educational ministry will be considered, especially the reason for its beginning amd continued existence.
