This course is designed to present some of the basic information necessary to interpret the current literature in PNI and to facilitate the design of research in this area. As this research area is broadly based, the course has been structured to provide students with an overview of communication pathways, and the functional significance of brain-to-immune and immune-to-brain signaling under normal healthy conditions. Other topics include: immunity and behavior, psychological and environmental factors that influence brain-immune interactions, dysregulation of brain-immune interactions in aging, infections, autoimmunity, cancer, and neurodegenerative disorders.
