7/2010 - 6/2011 Craniofacial Conference
This multi-disciplinary conference is scheduled weekly (1:00-6:00 pm) to expose the residents to a variety of patient needs as related to the cleft lip palate and craniofacial anomalies. Residents present cases for discussion, diagnosis, surgical treatment planning and reconstruction, as well as alternative therapy. Attending from other specialty areas; namely Pediatrics, Otolaryngology, Speech Pathology, and Plastic Surgery contribute to a team approach to planning treatment of these patients. The patients are interviewed and examined by all participants prior to the group discussion at the end of the clinic day of patient clinical examination. This conference serves as the clinical basic for the Lectures Review Seminars (OMFS 609).
7/2010 - 6/2011 OMFS 614-1: Clinical Experience in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Practice
The first-year resident’s introduction to the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program will consist of extensive preparation for the conference schedules that are presented on a weekly basis.  The first-year resident will be responsible for performing dento-alveolar surgery at the out-patient clinics of Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, Loma Linda University School of Dentistry, Loma Linda University Medical Center, and Riverside County Regional Medical Center.  The resident will also be responsible for pre-operative and post-operative evaluation, and care of patients under the direction of the chief resident following major Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the above named hospitals.
7/2010 - 6/2011 OMFS 614-2: Clinical Experience in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Practice
Participation of the second-year resident will consist of planning and performing many major Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery procedures. Hospital protocol, treatment of hospitalized patients, diagnosis, and treatment of facial fractures, facial reconstruction, and orthognathic surgery will be emphasized. Rotation to other medical and surgical services in the Medical Center will be an important part of this curriculum. Attendance at the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery seminars when the resident is on service will be required.
7/2010 - 6/2011 OMFS 614-3: Clinical Experience in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Practice
Participation of the third-year resident will consist of development of treatment protocols for complicated fractures of the facial bones, reconstruction maxillofacial surgery, surgical orthognathic correction, and treatment of development or acquired deformities of the jaws will be emphasized. Pre-prosthetic surgery, osseous grafting of post-resection and post-traumatic maxillofacial defects will also be presented. The management of patients having temporomandibular joint dysfunction will be taught.
7/2010 - 6/2011 OMFS 614-4: Clinical Experience in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Practice
All phases of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery will be the responsibility of the fourth-year resident. He/she will be expected to master the diagnosis and treatment of all minor and major surgical cases. He/she will have final house officer responsibility for the pre-operative and post-operative evaluation and surgical care of all Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery patients.
7/2010 - 6/2011 OMFS 617: Critical Decision Making in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
A great amount of training is gained through retrospective analysis of procedures, patient selection and evaluation, surgical prospective and treatment planning, risk management and documentation. This seminar also is devoted to reviewing oral and maxillofacial surgical outcomes, patient selection, documentation and record keeping and analysis of predicted versus actual and surgical results. This seminar also provides an avenue for risk management, appropriate record keeping and review of all departmental surgical outcomes.   In addition, patient cases for the upcoming week are previewed and discussed. Emphasis is placed on data gathering, differential diagnosis, and treatment planning options. The conference serves as a department M & M’s session reviewing cases of the week.   References: AAOMS PARAMETERS OF CARE

3/2011 - 6/2011 OMFS 606: Applied Surgical Anatomy
The purpose of the course is to enable the Graduate students and Residents to master the anatomic principles involved in the clinical diagnosis and in the assessment of clinical problem areas which could be encountered in various health care delivery situations. The applied anatomic consequences of various surgical and treatment procedures and the anatomic aspects of emergencies occurring in practice will be discussed in detail. Emphasis will be placed upon knowledge of the vascular and neuroinnervation of the structures of the oral cavity and adjacent areas of the head and neck. The application of this material will be discussed in terms of actual clinical case presentations.
9/2010 "Craniofacial Genetics"
ORDN 606 Craniofacial Genetics. Lecture Grad Ortho, Loma Linda, CA.
9/2010 "Principles in Orthognathic Surgery"
ORDN 597 Orthognathic Surgery Theory And Literature Review. Loma Linda, CA.
9/2010 - 12/2010 OMFS 616: Application of Surgical Priciples to Orthgnathic Surgery.
The seminar is scheduled weekly to expose residents to a variety of patient needs including cosmetic, orthognathic, and reconstruction.  Residents present potential candidates for surgery and are responsible for cephalometric analysis, model surgery, proposed treatment planning, and prediction tracing, all of which are reviewed by the attending staff.  Discussions as to treatment planning, analysis and alternative treatment are led by the staff.  The pre-operative conference is a review of patients who will be operated the following week.  Final model surgeries, splints and final treatment plans are reviewed by the resident and attending staff.  The status board reviews surgical patients’ phase of treatment post-operatively and allows residents and staff to follow the patients’ progress through the recuperative phase into final healing.  This insures that patients’ are monitored as to relapse, infection or any other complication and adds post-operative risk management to the patient treatment.

7/2010 - 6/2011 OMFS 605: Integrated Orthodontic and Surgical Correction of Dentofacial Deformities
A monthly seminar course emphasizing preoperative diagnosis, planning, intraoperative procedures, and postoperative care of orthognathic patients. This includes description of congenital and development deformities and an emphasis is placed on all aspects of surgical-orthodontic patient management. Preoperative skeletal, dental and soft tissue cephalometric analysis are performed. Patients selected include a wide range of Dentofacial deformities. The importance of accurate cephalometric analysis in treatment planning, including accurate prediction tracing, is emphasized.
