DNHY 408 Professional Ethics for the Dental Hygienist


This course compares and contrasts personal morality and professional ethics as it relates to the practice of dentistry/dental hygiene. Using a theoretical framework and applicable case studies, the student is encouraged to develop and define their understanding of the mature and ethical conduct expected of a professional health care provider. 10 lectures/20 hours offered Winter quarter

The goal of this clinical exercise is to provide entering dental students with a "hands on" experience early in their traditionally "basic science" year. Oral health care education and its role in patient treatment is emphasized along with individualizing proper technique. 95 students/8 hours/1 session during fall orientation

This course is an introduction to the theory associated with clnical procedures and patient care. Content selection is aimed at preparing the student to operate competently in a clinical setting. Topics include prevention and transmission of disease, patient assessment skills and treatment planning.
