Introduction to mixed layer clay petrology. Preparation of oriented clay mineral mounts for XRD analysis. Use of NewMod2 software to model clay structures and compositions.

2 credit class - An introduction to the culture of funded research. Students are assisted in formulating their own research ideas and prepare two formats of grant proposals. Specialists lecture on networking, foundations, making presentations, OSR procedures, and animal care and other regulations. This year students submitted proposals for $13,100.
