Clay Mineralogy and X-ray Diffraction Analysis

Overview of clay mineralogy and crystal chemistry highlighting framework structures, polytypes, and substitutions in phyllosilicates and their expression in x-ray diffractograms. Introduction to mixed layer clay petrology. Preparation of oriented clay mineral mounts for XRD analysis. Use of NewMod2 software to model clay structures and compositions.
