This course includes: laws and regulations governing the practice of dental hygiene, with special emphasis on California regulations and standards of government regulations.  Defines the obligations of the hygienist to the public and to his/her profession.

Continuation of laboratory techniques.  Intraoral and extraoral radiographic interpretation, including anatomy, pathology, and interpretation of the disease process of the oral hard tissues.  Basic fundamentals of radiographic selection criteria.

Principles governing radiation production and safety relative to radiographic anatomy/dental materials.  Fundamentals of intraoral and extraoral techniques, darkroom procedures, and mountinf of radiographs.  Practical application of techniques.  Basic fundamentals of quality assurance.

Prepare students for taking the dental hygiene state board.

Clinical instruction, advanced instrumentation, review one on one with each student, provide bi-montly progress reports.  Set CBC dates - included:  protocol before, during and after the exam.  Integrated the dental hygiene students into the dental group practice setting.

Prepare students for National Boards.  Targeted clinical issues that students are concerned with.  Students developed a case presentation on a clinical patient to present before the class.

Responsibilities:  clinical instruction, advanced instrumentation in the lab setting, review one on one with each student quarterly, provide bi-monthly progress reports which included: competencies, clinic requirements, patient reports, instructor evaluations.
6/2001 - 9/2004 DNHY 324L - Instrumentation Lab
Lab taught during summer quarter of beginning of senior year.  Focuse on how to intermix didactic learning into the clinical setting.  Designed OSCE to evaluate the level of competence the Junior students had obtained before entering their Senior year in clinical practice.
