Pharmacy Practice Residency Program General Information
Post Graduate Year Two (PGY2) - Critical Care
The Loma Linda University PGY2 Critical Care Residency is a 12-month program designed to provide a resident with the opportunity to experience a variety of critical care settings including adult intensive care, pediatric pediatric intensive care, neonatal intensive care and emergency medicine. The goal of our program is to prepare the resident to become proficient in the pharmacological management of critical care patients.
CRITICAL CARE RESIDENT ACTIVITIES:
- Participate in patient care rounds with a multi-disciplinary critical care team and provide whole person care
- Participate in Critical Care Committee meetings and Grand Rounds
- Serve as a preceptor to PharmD students on APPE and/or IPPE rotations
- Serve as a preceptor for PGY1 residents
- Provide clinically justified pharmacological recommendations and drug information to various health care providers
- Deliver didactic instruction, small group facilitation, and precept Loma Linda University School of Pharmacy Students
- Prepare a manuscript suitable for publication in a peer-reviewed journal
- Provide educational in-services to nursing, physician, and pharmacy staff
- Limited staffing in pharmacies which primarily serve critical care patients

TEACHING CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
Residents enrolled into the PGY1 Program will participate in the Teaching Certificate Program. The goal of the program is to provide participants the experience and guidance necessary to understand and apply current educational issues in pharmacy education. In order to earn the certificate, each participant must meet the following requirements:
- Attendance at teaching seminars (30 hours)
- Teaching experience (3 hours of lecture and 10 hours of case conference)
- Development of a teaching dossier
- Other academic-related activities
