Loma Linda University School of Pharmacy convocation ceremony for the Pharm.D. degree took place Sunday, May 27 on the university mall. This year saw the largest class in the seven years of LLUSP graduating classes with 73 students receiving the Pharm.D. degree.
Speaking to the new 73 Pharm.D. doctors was Loma Linda University President Richard Hart, MD, Dr.PH with a thought-provoking speech titled "Mission Focused Living." Dr. Hart's message enlightened the new doctors of pharmacy about the intristic rewards from a professional career of service to humanity. Dr. Hart's message was timely for a world fraught with major health issues, and relevant from his personal life-long medical mission work in Africa and other nations of the world.
With a passion informed by extensive experience in international health, Dr. Hart has been a central force in launching humanitarian efforts that encourage cross-cultural engagement, extend the University's footprint to the frontiers of our world, and build upon the institutional legacy of global service. His focus on service as a core value inherent in the campus culture has contributed to outreach efforts that respond to needs at home and abroad, including: Students for International Mission Service (SIMS), Social Action Community Health System (SACHS), Adventist Health International (AHI), Global Learning Center, and other special projects. Dr.Hart became Loma Linda University's fourteenth president on March 24, 2008.
