A Continuing Education event hosted by Dr. Naomi Florea and the Department of Experiential Education was held at the Riverside Mission Inn on Thursday, April 10, 2014. Internationally known guest speaker, Jeff Goad, PharmD, MPH (pictured at left with Dr. Florea), presented on Going Global: Travel Health and Immunizations.
Associate Professor and Vice Chair of Continuing Professional Development, Credentialing and Distance Education at the USC School of Pharmacy, Dr. Goad lectures and writes extensively on the topic of travel health, community acquired infectious diseases, immunization practices, and community pharmacy programs. The event drew a large number of guests from the San Diego, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties.
Current Phi Lambda Sigma pharmacy students also joined the many pharmacists, preceptors and alumni for this important topic, as well as to gain an insight on the expectations of continuing education. The PLS members are also beginning to build relationships among the pharmacists, preceptors and alumni in order to develop professional relationships necessary for career opportunites.
"It is exciting to begin to network with all these pharmacy professionals and meeting them off campus puts us into an environment to get to know them better. Dr. Goad was awesome and I am glad I attended this event," said class of 2015 student Jennifer Cho.
Dr. Goad was very engaging with the attendees and provided important new information in the immunization field. Pharmacists as well as students enjoyed the important topic of global health immunizations.
The next CE event is scheduled for October, 2014.
