Market Night Tradition Adds More
Take the pledge. Take your meds.
by Stephen Vodhanel, PhD
For the past several years, Loma Linda School of Pharmacy (LLUSP) has engaged students with a community outreach program designed to bring medication information and prescription facts to the local community. Participating in Redlands Market Night, several students under the supervision of several professors establish an information booth where any of the market visitors can seek advice on their medication prescriptions or any other general drug information.
This year LLUSP has joined the ScriptYourFuture campaign, sponsored by the National Consumers League, to enable patients to further understand any medical condition and how proper medication adherence is important with managing a health problem. According to medical professionals, almost 125,000 people die every year because they did not take their medicine as directed.
At Redlands Market Night, LLUSP students and faculty answer questions about various medicines – how they work, why it was prescribed, possible side affects and possible drug interactions. The students also promote the ScriptYourFuture website where people can learn more as well as become a member of the ScriptYourFuture campaign. LLUSP also encourages everyone to join the ScriptYourFuture campaign and take the pledge – take your meds.
The ScriptYourFuture website contains health conditions information, tools to manage one’s prescriptions, as well as events, news, and related communities and resources. To access the ScriptYourFuture website, visit scriptyourfuture.org, or click on our link to the left.
