Introducing ... PROLIT
PROLIT contains abstracts of articles concerned, directly or indirectly, with radiation therapy delivered by means of particles, notably the heavier particles such as protons, other hadrons, and heavy ions. PROLIT culls the National Library of Medicine's Medline database for abstracts of articles that inform clinicians and other interested readers about the current practice, the scientific bases, and the historical and philosophical milieu of heavy-particle radiation therapy. It identifies relevant abstracts and makes them easily available to visitors to this Web site.
PROLIT is a searchable database of abstracts culled from Medline; a simple boolean engine searches PROLIT according to the user's search terms and returns a list of abstracts, each of which is linked to Medline's free PubMed service. The Prolit database is updated regularly.
- Why use PROLIT?
The literature on proton and other forms of particle radiation therapy is contained within the larger Medline database on radiotherapy. Many relevant articles are cited under other Medical Subject Heading (MeSH) terms. PROLIT offers a culled collection of those articles; essentially, we have attempted to do the first stage of the search for the user. Here you will find a subset of the Medline collection; a set of links devoted to heavy-particle radiation therapy. The abstracts themselves are stored in Medline; once you have been linked to that database via PubMed, you can download the abstract(s) from Medline and search that database if you choose. You can return to PROLIT from PubMed by means of your browser's "back" button.- Who is PROLIT for?
PROLIT is intended primarily for clinicians: radiation therapists, surgeons, medical oncologists, internists, or other physicians who care for patients with cancer or other conditions that can be treated with radiation. It also may be useful to researchers and others who can benefit from a single source for heavy-particle therapy articles, and to patients interested in studying the topic.- How do I search PROLIT?
Select the button below. When the search form appears, type your search word(s) according to the instructions on that screen.- Suggestions are welcome
PROLIT is updated quarterly, using a systematic search of Medline. If an article is not listed that should be listed, however, we would like to know about it. Please e-mail your suggestions to rgrove@dominion.llumc.edu.
