Our alumni are an integral part of who we are. When you entered Loma Linda School of Public Health, or School of Health, as many of you may remember it, each of you were motivated by your passion to promote change – Whether it was working with youth, preventing the spread of diseases, helping to implement healthy lifestyle changes, collecting data, or making breakthroughs in research, the knowledge you received during your studies at SPH is immeasurable. We would like to invite you to encourage and support a new generation of alumni by attending events, sharing some of your experiences and expertise, and staying involved with your alumni community.
Public Health has taken many of you to the far corners of the earth and we would love to hear what you’ve been up to. If you haven’t already done so, please visit the Get Involved section of the website to connect with fellow alumni, update your contact information, contribute to the school, and share professional or personal stories to be included in an issue of Public Health Magazine.
As seems to happen with increasing speed these days, all of us have again stepped over the threshold into a new calendar year. We wish you the best and significant blessings as you continue your professional endeavors and care for those who are close to you.
As you know well, the health care landscape is changing significantly in the United States. With a renewed national interest in prevention and wellness as part of the new health care reimbursement support system, the opportunities for public health to have an indelible impact have never been greater. We are thus quite hopeful in this context during this new year. The world is watching how we deal with all of this in the U.S.
Concomitant with these national changes, our School of Public Health has also changed structurally. Some of you may already have gotten glimpses of this as you related to various faculty on the Loma Linda campus and speak to alumni colleagues. Further communique will be forthcoming. The structural changes in the School will hopefully facilitate cross disciplinary approaches to the learning, research, and service activities of the School.
As part of the noted changes, it’s been my pleasure to be tasked to relate to you as alumni. We intend to do more in this area. Depending on where you are, and on the types of professional development activities you attend, you may see more of us in the coming months. We look forward to meeting you and to receive your input and counsel on what your School of Public is doing.
Thank you so much for your support in prayer, in input, and philanthropic gifts. The School needs all of these elements to move forward in this new period.
