The Loma Linda University Center for Health Promotion provides a variety of fitness tests including basal metabolism rate (BMR) testing, body composition assessment, and VO2 maximal fitness stress testing.

Fitness Testing

TreadmillThe Center for Health Promotion can measure your fitness levels as part of your Comprehensive Wellness Evaluation or exclusively to determine your exercise capacity. Our team of providers can help you determine your ideal body weight, the level of fitness you should aim to achieve, appropriate intensity levels for workouts, and also help you set goals for improvement.

The following methods of fitness testing can be used to evaluate your performance and provide you with feedback to maintain or improve your current exercise habits.

Cardiovascular Stress Test

The Cardiovascular Stress Test will measure your cardiac function, blood circulation to your heart, fitness level, and maximal heart rate. The test is performed on a treadmill or stationary bike and takes approximately 45 minutes to complete. On your return visit you will have the opportunity to review your results with a physician.

Basal Metabolic Rate Test (BMR)

Basal metabolic rate (BMR) determines the number of calories that are used every day. This test measures an individual's BMR and the information obtained is beneficial for those who want to lose, gain, or maintain weight. This service includes a consultation with the exercise specialist to review the results.

Body Composition AssessmentWeight

Simple weight measurement does not provide enough information about your health. Electrical impedance is one of the most accurate ways of determining lean body mass and body fat percentage. At the Center for Health Promotion we can determine your body composition and provide you with the information you need to maintain a healthy body weight.

VO2 Maximal Fitness Stress Test

The VO2 maximal fitness stress test evaluates baseline fitness and anaerobic threshold. Competitive athletes can improve training regimens by determining an accurate exercise target heart rate. This test is performed on either a treadmill, stationary bike or a cyclist may use his/her own road bike.
