Loma Linda University School of Public Health (LLUSPH) Health Geoinformatics Unit invites you to apply for Health Geoinformatics Summer Institute from June 18 to August 31, 2007. Students will receive instruction in the entire certificate program curriculum in health geoinformatics outlined below. Participants can take all courses or as many courses as desired. The program is divided into two sessions. Students enrolled in the first session (June 18 – July 20) will have the opportunity to attend the ESRI International User Conference in San Diego (June 18 – 22). Registration begins on May 21, 2007. Apply now as space may be limited.
The Institute is primarily designed for health professionals and or students who have completed a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Qualified candidates must demonstrate computer proficiency, although no previous experience with GIS technology is required. Advanced placement can be considered for students with GIS experience/training. In addition, interested students, staff and faculty who would like to learn about GIS applications in health may also apply.
To earn the CHG, students must successfully complete at least 27 academic units as listed below. Core (C) requirements include courses in the two main areas of GIS fundamentals and techniques (17 units) and Health Geographics Electives (E) (at least 7 units). In addition, 3 units of Ethical Issues in Public Health are required. Students who successfully complete the CHG during the summer institute will also receive a free copy of ArcView software with some extensions (courtesy of ESRI).
