Health disparities
- Even in America, racial and ethnic minorities experience higher rates of a variety of health concerns. For instance, the death rate for all cancers among African-Americans is 30 percent higher than among whites. Vietnamese American women have a cervical cancer rate that is nearly five times the rate for white women. Hispanics are nearly twice as likely to die from diabetes as whites.
- African-American infants are more than twice as likely to die before their first birthday compared to white infants.
