Premier center on Nut Research
We are a leading research group on nuts and health. In 1993, Dr. Joan Sabaté, the Chair of the Department of Nutrition, was the first to find the link between consumption of nuts and protection against heart disease. These findings were published in the New England Journal of Medicine. In 2010, Dr. Sabaté's pooled-analysis of 25 nut consumption trials was published in the Internal Archives of Medicine. Dr. Sabaté's research is well-respected and awarded in the academic and scientific arenas. more>>
Experts in Vegetarian Nutrition
The LLU Department of Nutrition has produced the International Congress on Vegetarian Nutrition (ICVN), every five years since 1987. The 2008 meeting had over 700 in attendance from over 40 countries, providing our students with networking opportunities with some of the leading minds in vegetarian nutrition.
