The purpose of electives is to allow you to have choice and variety in your learning
experience within the scope of your major. Following is the list of approved global health
electives. Any other elective not on this list must be approved by the advisor and chair; an
academic variance must also be completed prior to a student taking the course for elective
credit. Generally substitutions of electives outside of this listing (recommended electives) will not be approved.
This listing of electives also includes course work for certificates: Certificate of Emergency
Preparedness and Response (CEPR) and the Certificate in Tobacco Control Methods (CTCM).
Please note that this sheet does not include all of the requirements for the certificates. Consult
with advisor for further details and requirements.
Students choosing to take a certificate are encouraged to carefully consider a certificate as a
focused area of interest and also be aware that a maximum of 9 units can be shared between
the MPH degree and the chosen certificate program.
