Planned Gift

Appreciated Securities

Appreciated stocks and bonds are also a popular asset donated to the School. That's because they're simple gifts and can offer you a greater tax benefit than an equivalent in cash. Using appreciated securities entitles you to a charitable deduction for the fair market value of the donated asset, and you avoid paying the capital gains tax you would pay if you sold the appreciated securities. This tax deduction may be up to 30 percent of your adjusted gross income, and any amount over this limit may be carried forward for five years.

Gifts that Pay an Income

Do you want to support the School of Public Health but worry about having enough income for yourself or your loved ones?

Gifts that pay an income, such as gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, and pooled income funds, can provide donors (or their designated beneficiary) with an income stream, significant tax savings, and the satisfaction of supplying the school with vital long-term resources. A gift that pays income provides benefits to both giver and receiver. These gifts can be funded with cash, appreciated securities, or real estate.

Since planned giving is very individualized, the specific benefits of gifts that pay income are influenced by a number of variables. Any gift you decide to make will be a reflection of your own special situation. Olukemi (Kemi) Adeoye, the school's Director of Development, can provide you with more details. E-mail or call us at (909) 558-7013.

Bequests

Through various types of bequests to Loma Linda School of Public Health, you may secure an estate tax charitable deduction for the value of the gift. Best of all, you will know that your generosity will support the School's mission for years to come.

A bequest can be made through various estate vehicles such as a will, trust, or even naming the school as a beneficiary of a retirement plan benefit or insurance policy.

When you share your bequest intention with Loma Linda, if you are over the age of 60, we will be able to count an estimated future value in our campaign totals.

Estate Planning

In order to ensure your assets are distributed in accordance with your wishes, it is important to have a plan.

For the School of Public Health to be a beneficiary of a portion of your estate, it is advised you consult with your attorney before making the needed additions to your will. We encourage you to notify us in order for us to thank you appropriately.

The advantages of giving appreciated real estate are essentially the same as for gifts of appreciated securities. Almost any type of real estate with a minimum value of $50,000 may be donated. You can even donate your principal or vacation residence while retaining lifetime use.

Matching Gift

You may be working in an organization that has an employee matching gift program. This could be match in full or part. The great news is that it increases the size of your gift up to 100% with no cost to you.

Please list the School of Public Health, Loma Linda University as the beneficiary with tax identification number 95-1816009.
