The PhD in Epidemiology prepares students for a career in epidemiological research and academia. Curriculum may be tailored to the student’s interests and academic needs, concentration requirements, and nature of the proposed research program. A comprehensive examination will be administered after completing the required coursework.
Students are expected to publish one paper and author two others as part of their training, as well as serve as a teaching assistant and laboratory assistant, which includes delivering lectures in appropriate courses. PhD students are responsible for identifying an appropriate faculty member to serve as their research mentor. The PhD program ordinarily consists of 12 quarters (about four per year), and at least five of these quarters must be devoted to research.
Possible Careers: University Professor, Epidemiologist, Researcher, Clinical Epidemiology
