LLUMC Chaplain Services - Divorce Recovery

Chaplain Services Divorce Recovery Group

Why divorce recovery?
The pain and loss experienced during divorce can be characterized as a secret grief--a hidden grief that few people outside of the divorce experience understand. Divorce is unique because these feelings of loss and grief commingle with our most basic and profound human passions: love, hate, and jealousy.

The diverse and intense feelings generated during this period range from relief to utter devastation. Such emotions may be further compounded by feelings of guilt, shame, abandonment, rejection, and failure. If not resolved, these dynamics may lead to deep sense of personal inadequacy.

Unresolved divorce issues can be practical, social, philosophical, and spiritual. People dealing with these issues often feel trapped, isolated, and alone.

In our groups we seek to explore, understand, and come to terms with the divorce experience. We do this by using group interaction, relevant reading assignments, teaching, films, and the Fisher Divorce Adjustment Scale evaluator. Individualized counseling may also be arranged.

Supporting separated and divorced persons in moving from brokenness to wholeness is the purpose of divorce recovery.

Group meeting time: 7:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Monday evenings for 10 weeks.

Registration and further information is available from the chaplain's office at (909) 558-4367 during regular business hours. A one-time fee of $85 per person is requested to help cover costs.

Other ten week groups offered by the department in the rebuilding groups series include:
* Reconnecting
* Family of origin
* Working with anger
* Spiritual journeys
