I. Research Affairs welcomes Cindy Dickson as the new Pre-Award Analyst

I am extremely pleased to announce that Cindy Dickson has joined the Research Affairs team as our new Pre-Award Grant Analyst (just in time to help with the GCAT applications).

Ms. Dickson previously spent 12 years as a research administrator in the Neurosurgery Center for Research and Training  and is well qualified for pre-award as her previous duties included identifying new funding opportunities; preparation of proposals to government, foundation and commercial sponsors; and advising faculty, staff and students on research-related matters.

II. NIH Web-based course hosted by LLU Department of Medicine: Introduction to the Principles and Practice of Clinical Research

It is a great pleasure to announce that NIH has approved the Department of Medicine to be a host site for a live web-based course titled “Introduction to the Principles and Practice of Clinical Research (IPPCR)”, from October 16, 2012 to March 26, 2013. There is no fee for the course.

The course information, topics & objectives, and schedule can be found at This course is an invaluable tool for all who are interested in the design, conduct, and analysis of research.  The live transmission will take place at the LLU Medical Center locations described on the attached schedule.  Optional arrangements could be made for delayed viewing (within 72 hours after each lecture date) via the NIH lecture website if you are not able to attend in-class.  

You may register to attend the conference using the following login : , select Loma Linda University from the Name of Organization drop down list and then complete the Student Information, Contact Information, and Affiliation information sections.  

In addition to registering on the NIH  website, please also email Blen Eshete, MPH, at with confirmation of your registration by Friday September 28th. This is for internal logistical reasons i.e. to ensure availability of  sufficient course materials  ahead of each lecture and to facilitate all future course –related correspondences/updates.
